There is a spiritual connection between an artist and their instrument, particularly for a guitarist. Lisa S. Johnson has been capturing the beauty of this relationship through photographing the guitars of artists such as Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Page for the past 18 years.
Her acclaimed book "108 Rock Star Guitars" is a stunning example of both her work and the craftsmanship of the guitars played by many of rocks legends. Dead Ringers was able to find out from Lisa what makes Keith Richards Gibson ES-350 unique.
"My liaison for photographing Keiths guitar was fellow Canadian Mike Cormier, Charlie Watts’ drum tech. While working with Mike, he said that the guitar had been hand-picked by Keith, and that it was a treasure never played onstage to keep from being damaged. I love this shot of Keith’s ES-350 presenting his well-worn pick guard most probably scratched with his infamous skull ring.”
